Although Auburn hails as the current national champion, all eyes are focused on Les Miles and his LSU Tigers. LSU has faced lots of turmoil this season. Several players, including starting QB Jordan Jefferson, have been suspended at one point or another. However, all the disruption seems to make LSU play better and makes their team bond stronger. The Tigers have won eight straight games by 10 or more points, including yesterday’s win against SEC rival Auburn. It’s hard to win eight straight, much less win by double-digit margins. Alabama, on the other hand, hasn’t faced the same issues as its SEC counterpart. ‘Bama convincingly beat up Tennessee, leading to a showdown in two weeks with LSU. With Oklahoma losing to Texas Tech, the Alabama-LSU game will have national championship implications, and the winner will likely play in the title game.

While it is definitely too early to determine how the college football season will end, if the SEC is represented in the BCS National Championship Game, the appearance will continue to show how the Conference dominates college football. For example, since the first revamped national championship game was played at the conclusion of the 1998 season, the SEC is undefeated, winning seven times, including the past five years in a row. That’s more than all the other BCS conferences combined. Wow!

Obviously, there are other teams and conferences who are looking to capture the BCS title. The Big 12 Conference is a perennial favorite to play in the BCS title game. With Nebraska bolting to the Big 10, it looks like fourth-ranked Oklahoma State may be poised to take control of the Conference. Oklahoma was ranked third in the nation behind LSU and Alabama, but lost unexpectedly to rival Texas Tech. The loss likely knocked the Sooners out of the BCS title race and Landry Jones out of Heisman Trophy contention.

Boise State is still favored to make a case to be included in the BCS title game, despite not having an alliance with a BCS automatic-bid conference. The Broncos haven’t been as dominate on their blue field, or otherwise this season. Kellen Moore’s performance thus far keeps him in the running for the Heisman. Though ranked fifth in the nation, one loss or a few more close wins will likely knock Boise State out of national championship contention.

The ACC has some good teams, however, Clemson seems to be the cream of the crop. The Tigers offense has been phenomenal, averaging 40.6 points per game. They are 8-0 for the first time since 2000 and are looking to replicate their 1981 National Championship season. Twelfth ranked Virginia Tech may have something to say about who ultimately claims the ACC title.

All in all, this has been an interesting college football season thus far. Can’t wait to see how the regular season plays out.
