Togetherness

Queen Anne’s lace and chicory
mix naturally, like sweet green peas
and carrots or lima beans and corn.
Togetherness is music born
of instinct, love or circumstance.
Not everyone will learn to dance
to modern strains of harmony;
they lack a vein of empathy

to appreciate diversity
dispersed within our human seas.
But someday, on a golden morn
when tolerance replaces scorn,
then we’ll accept inheritance
for only having relevance
as threads that weave the tapestry
of Queen Anne’s lace and chicory.
